Long before Apple was even thought of Olivetti were blazing the trail for functional office devices that looked and felt great.
The colourful and portable Olivetti Valentine typewriter fused functionality with 1960s pop art style to create a true design classic that wouldn’t look out of place today.
Towards the end of the 1960s Olivetti released the Valentine typewriter into the world to great excitement. The otherwise mundane piece of ubiquitous office equipment had been given an extreme makeover, and one that would brighten up dull beige offices, and provide a level of functionality that would make office admin much easier.
The typewriter, made from plastic, was available in lime green, white, blue and lipstick red, and was also portable in a matching carrying case. Its manufacturer Olivetti had aimed to bring the unfashionable (and usually beige) product, associated with dreary office typing pools, right up to date… and they succeeded with great aplomb.
Although the Valentine was ultimately deemed a little clunky and less proficient than some of Olivetti’s other models, it has become a collectors item and an enduring design icon, and has no doubt inspired many product designers since when they have been briefed with creating today’s modern, sleek devices.
Olivetti’s design prowess and class didn’t stop when the 60s had ended. They applied their original lines of thinking into other products, including their ranges of photocopiers and printers.
Today’s Olivetti desktop printers and multi-functional printers (MFPs) stand at the forefront of office innovation and are available at a fraction of the cost of most other brands.
Olivetti MFPs are perfect for small to medium size business, and ideal for schools. The new Olivetti devices have been specifically created to meet the professional document management requirements of different job types in the modern office environment. The Olivetti d-COLOR range of MFPs have been designed to exceed user’s expectations in handling heavy workloads without losing functionality.
The Olivetti range includes desktop mono MFPs, desktop colour MFPs, and pedestal based office MFPs with multiple paper drawers. All of which help to reduce management costs, and have a minimal effect of the environment. This combined with low print costs means you can save money, boost profits, and meet your environmental targets with relative ease.
All of which ensures Olivetti’s place in our hearts for many years to come.
